The Country Store was a focal point of 19th century community life in rural areas. It combined elements of the dry-goods store, ironmonger’s, post office, pharmacy and political forum. Customers, after replenishing their provisions and purchasing other items from the crowded shelves, colourful tins or open barrels, would gather around the warm glow of the pot-bellied stove to exchange gossip or engage in political debate.

The Country Store also serves as one of the museum’s shops, stocking a wide range of gifts including Navajo jewellery, Shaker boxes, a range of mugs and tea towels depicting American Museum quilt designs, hand crafted goods and many other American style lines.
