JOHN JUDKYN MEMORIAL OUTREACH PROGRAMME

Founded in 1965 in memory of John Judkyn, co-founder of the American Museum in Britain, the JJM promotes a knowledge and understanding of American culture by loaning exhibitions to museums and galleries and, in addition, small exhibits (school kits) for classroom use.

Educational Loans – School Kits

The JJM’s school loan kits aim to inspire and inform by direct reference to the historical items they contain.

Each kit consists of a Perspex-fronted case, typically measuring 60cmx60cmx15cm/24”x24”x6”.

This is how a kit looks when set up for display in the classroom.

Available in the following themes:

µ  Eskimos / Hawaiians

µ  Early Settlers

µ  Domestic Life: 18th Century / 19th Century

µ  Education

µ  Minorities, Religious and Ethnic Groups:

-      Spanish New Mexico / Shakers

-      Pennsylvania Germans / Slavery

µ  Defending the Nation:

-      The War of Independence / The War of 1812

-      The American Civil War

µ  The Opening of the West

Teachers Notes and other historical and background information is also provided with the kits.

Important

Whilst the John Judkyn Memorial provides insurance cover for the loan of school kits, including transportation, borrowers are expected to exercise great care in their use and to supervise them at all times.

Prior to arranging a loan, the JJM asks each school to complete a Loan Agreement, which, sets out the terms and conditions for the loan.
