Bath Patchwork Project ’26

We are delighted to partner with Bath Artists’ Studios on their Bath Patchwork Project ’26. The project is led by textile artist and Bath Spa University lecturer Emma Reichenbach. People from across the city are invited to contribute to a giant patchwork quilt that captures life in Bath today. Inspired by America 250, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Through a series of artist-led workshops taking place at venues across Bath including at the American Museum & Gardens, participants are stitching their names into fabric while sharing hopes, memories and reflections that will be incorporated into the reverse of the finished quilt. The project reflects on the hopes, aspirations and shared experiences that unite communities across generations. The finished quilt will become a textile time capsule, representing the voices, stories and creativity of people from across Bath and will go on display at the American Museum & Gardens later this year. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the many individual contributions brought together into one extraordinary community quilt.

At two workshops held at the Museum in July, visitors of all ages came together to create individual stitched squares that will become part of a remarkable community artwork celebrating the people of Bath.

The workshops at the American Museum & Gardens formed part of this city-wide programme, introducing participants to the art of hand stitching while encouraging conversations about community, belonging and the connections that bring people together. No previous sewing experience was needed, with everyone contributing their own unique square to this ambitious collaborative artwork.
