International Quilt Festival, Houston USA

This October, the American Museum & Gardens will be exhibiting at one of the biggest quilt events in the world – the International Quilt Festival in Houston. In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, our exhibition Transatlantic Threads: Red Cross Quilts from WWII, provides a rare opportunity to view quilts that were sent by the Red Cross from North America to Britain to ease wartime suffering. Additional quilts on display are from the same period, including a quilt given to Eleanor Roosevelt during her time in the White House. This selection is from the Museum’s spectacular American quilt collection, acclaimed as the finest of its type in Europe and the equal of many premier collections in the United States. Meet the American Museum & Gardens’ Chief Curator Kate Hebert at the show, where she will be giving talks every day about the Museum’s special quilt collection.

The exhibition launches our new US Friends Quilt Membership for all quilt lovers based in the USA.

The International Quilt Festival regularly attracts more than 40,000 people from over 25 countries all around the world. There’s shopping at more than 700 booths for quilts, fabric, supplies, and crafts, along with 350 classes and lectures for all experience levels. The festival features more than 1,200 quilts and unique works of textile art on display.
