Autumn Talk – Conkey's Tavern, Shays Rebellion and the American Constitution

Conkey’s Tavern is not just any old Massachusetts tavern! It was the main hostelry in the town of Pelham, and a meeting place for a group of rebellious farmers led by Daniel Shays. Join us to find out what caused this rebellion, if it was successful and what was the legacy of this daring act?
Our speaker, historian and academic Nick Russell, will explore this fascinating story using museum archive material to bring to life to the tale of William Conkey, the tavern and the foundation of Pelham in the 1740’s.
Following the talk, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Conkey’s Tavern for yourselves as part of a museum visit which along with the exhibition and gardens, is included in your admission ticket.

Things you need to know
The event starts at 11.30am and is due to end by 12.30pm.
We are pleased to offer free parking. If the main car park is full, please follow our signs to the additional parking, just a short distance up Claverton Hill from the main car park.
On arrival, please check in with the Ticket Office team who will give you more information about your visit. Please arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of the start time to check in.
If you are not a member, please purchase an admission ticket, which includes the gardens, museum, exhibition, deli café and shop, in addition to your event ticket.
Please be aware that we are unable to provide a refund unless we close the American Museum & Gardens due to unforeseen circumstances or cancel the event ourselves.
