Forest of the Imagination
11 July - 1 September | 10am–5pm
This summer, Forest of the Imagination returns to the American Museum & Gardens with a series of inspiring outdoor art installations celebrating creativity, nature and play.
Explore the Museum's gardens, woodland and arboretum as you discover imaginative artworks that encourage visitors of all ages to look more closely at the natural world, reflect, play and create. From giant sculptures to immersive installations, each artwork invites you to experience the landscape in a new way.
Highlights include
Dreamer - Andrew Grant
Meet Dreamer, a spectacular 7.5-metre inflatable rabbit, created by Andrew Grant with a little help from his children, and brought to life by Designs in the Air. A much-loved icon of Forest of the Imagination, Dreamer will be in the grounds throughout the summer.
Imaginal Soup - Matthew Leece
Inspired by the remarkable transformation that takes place inside a butterfly's chrysalis, Imaginal Soup explores the extraordinary process of renewal and change. The installation takes its name from the biological process in which imaginal cells carry the blueprint for what is yet to come.
The Waters Way - Andrew Amondson
By Berlin-based American artist, Andrew Amondson. Did you know water flows beneath the American Museum & Gardens? Follow shimmering ribbons of blue and white fabric as they trace the hidden path of an ancient stream through the landscape. Walk under its rolling waves, step into its flow, and listen to what the water is trying to tell you.
Chrysalis Grove - Grant Associates
Discover a grove of oversized chrysalises suspended amongst the trees of our beautiful arboretum. Celebrating transformation, renewal and emergence, the installation invites visitors to pause and reflect on the possibilities of change.
Artist Workshops – Saturday 18 July
Join artists from the Forest of the Imagination team for a day of creative, hands-on workshops inspired by the installations and the natural surroundings of the Museum. Activities are suitable for all ages and will encourage imagination, making and exploration.
Further workshop details will be announced soon.
Tickets
Normal admission applies throughout the installation period (11 July –1 September). Thanks to the Government's Great British Summer Savings scheme, all admission tickets are currently available at reduced prices.
Pay What You Can Day – Sat 18 July
This event day is a fundraiser for the American Museum & Gardens to support our work as a charity with no government funding. On the day of the event, you will be able to donate to enter the site on a pay-what-you-feel basis, based on what you feel it is worth. We ask that you give generously, but if you can't afford to, that's fine too.
Forest of the Imagination is a partnership between Grant Associates, House of Imagination, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios and Bath Spa University, working alongside Bath's creative, cultural and educational communities. Each year, the project reimagines a familiar space to celebrate the importance of nature and imagination in all of our lives.
