Summer Talk - 1930s Quilts

Summer Talk - 1930s Quilts

16 July | 11.30am

Carolyn Forster, a best-selling quilting author, will be visiting the American Museum & Gardens on 16 July to chat about her new book 1930s Quilts.

Carolyn’s book explores the unique history, style and ingenuity behind the quiltmaking in Depression-era America, and includes 10 stunning 1930s-style quilts for the reader to make themselves.

Joining Carolyn is the museum's Chief Curator Kate Hebert; Kate wrote the foreword in the book, which provides a captivating overview of the period and the book itself. 1930s Quilts includes photographs of beautiful 1930s quilts from the museum's collection, as historical examples of what the makers before us have achieved. Carolyn will share how the museum’s collection, amongst other quilts from the period, inspired her to create her own quilt designs in the book.
