Spring Talk – Meeting the Quilters of Gee’s Bend

In November 2025, our outgoing Museum Director, Gareth Thomas, travelled to Gee’s Bend, Alabama, to visit the extraordinary community of African American women whose quilts feature in our current exhibition, Kith & Kin: The Quilts of Gee’s Bend.
In this free, special talk, Gareth will share reflections on his time in Gee’s Bend - the artists he met, the places he visited, and the remarkable history and creativity that have shaped this internationally celebrated, 200-year-old quilting tradition. Drawing on his personal visit, he will offer further insight into the exhibition and the living cultural heritage behind the quilts on display.

If you are a member, please log in with your member ID or email on the ticket page. Please note, if you are not a member, you will need to purchase an admission ticket to the American Museum & Gardens as well as a free event ticket.

Things you need to know
The event starts at 11.30am and is due to end by 12.30pm.
We are pleased to offer free parking. If the main car park is full, please follow our signs to the additional parking, just a short distance up Claverton Hill from the main car park.
On arrival, please check in with the Ticket Office team who will give you more information about your visit. Please arrive at least 10 minutes ahead of the start time to check in.
If you are not a member, please purchase an admission ticket, which includes the gardens, museum, exhibition, deli café and shop, in addition to your event ticket.
Please be aware that we are unable to provide a refund unless we close the American Museum & Gardens due to unforeseen circumstances or cancel the event ourselves.
